The city of Hobart will host a public hearing Thursday on the possible expansion of "demand response" public transportation for its residents.

The city, transportation-provider South Lake Community Services and the Legacy Foundation are seeking comment on the possibility of expanding service beyond the current service for senior citizens to and from locations in south Lake County.

The current service is free due to a Legacy Foundation grant. Expanded service would require creation of a fare system.

The hearing will be at 1 p.m. at the Maria Reiner Center, 705 E. Fourth St.

Public comment can also be offered by telephone at 219-663-3869 or by mail to South Lake County Community Services Inc., 1450 E. Joliet St., Suite 202, Crown Point.

Comments will be taken until 5 p.m. Oct. 23.
