At ArcelorMittal, the world’s leading steel and mining company, we believe in boldness. Boldness inspires us to create processes and products that make life easier and safer while minimizing our impact on the environment.

For centuries, steel has played a critical role in transforming the way we live, work and travel. Through the spirit of innovation, ArcelorMittal develops stronger, lighter and more sustainable steel found in products that shape the modern world – from cars and household appliances to buildings, bridges and machinery. Steel touches every part of our daily life, providing our employees – past and present – with a sense of pride and contribution to the world around us. Today, ArcelorMittal has more than 20 facilities and approximately 18,000 employees in the United States. In northwest Indiana alone, ArcelorMittal employs more than 11,000 skilled men and women.

Preparing our workforce of the future

Manufacturers across the United States, including the steel industry, are facing a critical workforce challenge: thousands of skilled workers are needed over the next decade to fill vacancies left by retirements. ArcelorMittal has a clear vision for recruiting a dynamic, talented and diverse workforce with the electrical and mechanical skills required to deliver on our critical mission of producing safe, sustainable steel for generations to come.

ArcelorMittal USA has partnered with community colleges to offer Steelworker for the Future®, a 2.5 year associate degree program that combines classroom learning with hands-on training, all while earning wages to offset tuition. The program prepares individuals for high-tech, well-paying jobs in steel or manufacturing. Graduates have the opportunity work as an hourly maintenance technician, earning an average of $90,000 annually plus benefits. Steelworker for the Future® is offered locally at Ivy Tech, Prairie State and Purdue North Central. Learn more at www.steelworkerforthefuture.com.

Our diversity is a business strength

In addition to ensuring future employees are highly skilled and educated, we value building a diverse employee population. With operations in more than 60 countries, we are truly a global company and believe that the diversity of our workforce brings fresh ideas, perspectives and experiences to our business and makes ArcelorMittal a stimulating environment where everyone has the opportunity to participate fully.

We take extensive measures to ensure that openness and inclusivity are integral to the way we work, at every level. In 2011, we launched a Global Diversity and Inclusion Council to ensure that ArcelorMittal becomes an ‘employer of choice’ for women. The council defines our gender diversity and inclusion strategy and identifies the barriers and challenges that women face in the business. In addition, as an example of efforts to promote diversity locally, ArcelorMittal is a sponsor of The Times Diversity Job Fair and BusINess Symposium.
