Dick's Sporting Goods coming to Schererville's Shops on Main

Gordman's closed last year at Shops on Main in Schererville after the Omaha, Nebraska-based department store chain went bankrupt, but it wasn't long before the shopping center found a new tenant for its largest space.

Regency Centers, the Jacksonsville, Florida-based real estate investment that manages Shops on Main, announced on the shopping center's website that Dick's Sporting Goods will replace Gordman's in the 50,134-square-foot space. The new big-box store will occupy a prime spot on the northeast corner of the outdoor retail center at Main Street and Indianapolis Boulevard on the border of Schererville and Highland.

Dick's Sporting Goods did not return phone calls for comment.

Dick's likely is relocating its nearby location at 10251 Indianapolis Blvd. in Highland from the neighboring Highland Grove Shopping Center when the lease expires.

The Pittsburgh area-based retailer also has locations at the Southlake Mall in Hobart and the Porter's Vale Shopping Center in Valparaiso. It outlasted competitors MC Sports and Sports Authority, which both went bankrupt and closed all their Region locations last year.

It will join other tenants at Shops on Main like Whole Foods, Nordstrom Rack, Home Goods, Pier 1 Imports, Tomato Bar and Chico's Outlet.
