DETROIT | Majestic Star owner and Detroit businessman Don Barden will be honored Friday by Black Enterprise Magazine as one of the nation's "Titans: 40 Most Powerful African Americans in Business."
Barden also was recognized in the magazine's August issue.
"It is truly humbling and an honor to be in such great company," Barden said. "I'm grateful to have the recognition."
Barden is listed at No. 21 on the list of the 40 most powerful. The magazine states that Barden, "entered unchartered territory for black entrepreneurs by developing the largest black cable television operator and managing the only black-owned gaming conglomerate with properties in Las Vegas."
In June, he was listed as No. 10 on the magazine's list of the nation's largest black businesses among industrial/service companies, and he was also recognized by the magazine with the 2010 A.G. Gaston Lifetime Achievement Award.
Barden is chair and CEO of Barden Companies Inc. and is the country's first and only African-American to own a national casino company,
The business includes casinos which are located in Black Hawk, Colo.; Tunica, Miss; and Las Vegas; along with Majestic Star Casino I and II in Gary.
