Indianapolis startup Scale Computing says it has received $9 million in venture funding from lead investor Benchmark Capital of California. The data-storage technology developer says the funding will be used to improve its product line and for international expansion. In November, Scale Computing located to the Purdue Research Park at AmeriPlex-Indianapolis and unveiled plans to expand its work force from 15 employees to 50 by the end of the year.
Rolls-Royce receives huge Navy contract
The U.S. Navy is awarding Rolls-Royce in Indianapolis a $75 million contract to provide engines for the Marine Corps' and Air Force's Osprey. The company says the 11-month deal, which includes four option years, has a potential value of more than $600 million. Rolls-Royce will provide engine management services support for more than 250 aircraft.
Indiana company opens more data centers
An Evansville-based company says it has opened data centers in Indianapolis and Lafayette as part of an effort to expand its "cloud computing" capabilities. nGenX Corp. has opened a data center in Louisville, bringing its total to five in the Midwest. nGenX also recently announced it is considering building a $10 million center in southern Indiana.
Stimulus to fund Ivy Tech logistics training
Ivy Tech Community College-Lafayette says it is using a federal stimulus grant to offer logistics certification courses. The money comes from the High Growth and Emerging Industries job training grant authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The courses will help train certified logistics associates and technicians.
Children's Museum latest project includes treasures
The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is teaming up with the National Geographic Society for its latest permanent exhibit. The National Geographic Treasures of the Earth is scheduled to open next summer and will feature real archeological excavation sites and treasures discovered from the earth. Over the next few weeks, the museum is planning a series of events to reveal the focus of each major component of the exhibit.
Steel Dynamics reports 'robust' order activity
Fort Wayne-based Steel Dynamics Inc. has revised its first quarter 2010 guidance to a range of 22-cents to 27-cents a share, compared to net income of 12-cents a share from the fourth quarter. The company says "robust order entry activity" and increased scrap prices in the first quarter have helped enhance profitability in its recycling operations.
Republic Airways names VP of sales
Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings Inc. has a new vice president of sales, distribution and loyalty programs. James Reichart is a 24-year veteran of Midwest Airlines, which Republic recently acquired.
Grand Ooening set for two new hhgregg stores
Indianapolis-based hhgregg Inc. will open two new locations in Virginia Thursday. The stores are located in Virginia Beach and Newport News. Approximately 100 people have been hired for both operations, and the company is still accepting applications.
Good Samaritan joins health information network
The Indiana Network for Patient Care health information exchange is expanding beyond central Indiana. Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes is joining 40 other medical facilities serving more than six million patients as a member of the INPC. The network allows member facilities to securely exchange patient information.

Ball State University's Digital Policy Institute is planning a day-long seminar March 26 on the soon-to-be-released National Broadband Plan. The discussions will focus on the initiative and its potential impact on Indiana and throughout the U.S.
Indiana developers to pitch game at Microsoft competition
Two former Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship winners have been asked to pitch their new online reading video game at the Microsoft BizSpark Accelerator Competition, next week in Texas. The developers of Pocket Tales say the game helps children develop critical reading skills.
Utility using interactive intelligence software
Indianapolis-based Interactive Intelligence has announced that Southwest Gas is now using its IP-based communications software suite. Southwest officials say the Customer Interaction Center has allowed it to improve customer service and increase operational efficiencies. The utility provides natural gas service to approximately 1.8 million customers in Arizona, Nevada and California.
