More details will be revealed this week about the deal to secure a manufacturing facility in Connersville for Carbon Motors Corp, which could mean 1,500 jobs. Mayor Leonard Urban is expected to participate in a formal announcement of an agreement to transfer ownership of a former Visteon Corp. plant, which Carbon Motors wants to use to produce high-tech police cars. As Inside INdiana Business reported last week, a bankruptcy court recently approved a plan to sell the vacant plant to the city for $500, with Connersville agreeing to clean up the site at a cost estimated at up to $4 million.
AIT employees receive second bonus this year
Indianapolis-based AIT Laboratories is once again rewarding its employees with a net profit sharing bonus. Workers are sharing $1 million, which is the second bonus they have received this year. In June, AIT gave employees $2 million in a surprise mid-year bonus. In July, President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Evans transferred ownership of the company to employees as part of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
Attorney General files suit against recycler
An Elkhart County recycling company with a history of environmental and worker-safety violations is being sued by the Indiana Attorney General's office. Attorney General Greg Zoeller says VIM Recycling in Elkhart has been given multiple opportunities by the state and now has "run out of second chances." The suit calls on the company to cease open dumping of wood waste and to remove waste materials and debris.
Indiana hotels make gold list
For the second year in a row, Conrad Indianapolis and West Baden Springs Hotel in French Lick have landed on Condé Nast Traveler's Gold List. The rankings are one step beyond the previous recognition that the hotels received in October through Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards as a Top 100 United States Hotel.
Lafayette economic development officials outline 2009 highlights
Economic development organizations around the state are reflecting on 2009 as they prepare for the new year. That includes Greater Lafayette Commerce, which says its efforts in 2009 led to projects involving more than 700 jobs and approximately $170 million in capital investment. Chief Executive Officer Joe Seaman says those are "bright spots," but adds the organization is "not going to pretend 2009 was not a difficult year for local business and industry."
Fort Wayne to make infrastructure improvements
The city of Fort Wayne says it will use about $4 million in federal stimulus funds to pay for resurfacing major streets next year. The money will also be used to improve two trail projects. Work is expected to start in the spring and the city says it should retain 100 local jobs.
Republic names supply chain leader
Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings has appointed Drew Skaff as vice president of Supply Chain. He previously served in a similar position for Frontier Airlines, which Republic acquired earlier this year.
