The Center of Workforce Innovations is fielding candidates in La Porte County to serve as volunteer career advisers for its Encore Career Adviser initiative.
The seven-county initiative provides Northwest Indiana high school students -- following their graduation -- with career information and assists them with their future planning.
AmeriCorps, a network of national service programs, is leading the program and is operating it in conjunction with United Way of Porter County and the Center of Workforce Innovations.
The La Porte County Encore advisers will work with teachers and counselors to help youth and their families prepare for college, the prospect of entering high wage and high demand careers and other learning. Advisers also will mobilize businesses and community organizations to act as partners and mentors throughout the school year and beyond.
