MARTINSVILLE, Ind. | The company planning to build a natural gas pipeline across central Indiana said it was working to provide details to a federal agency so it can gain approval for the project.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission last week sent its fourth letter in five months to Rockies Express seeking environmental information and project details necessary for the commission's review process.

Rockies Express plans a 622-mile pipeline that would run from Colorado to Ohio, with a section running underground through nine Indiana counties. The company wants federal approval by February and have the pipeline operational by June 2009.

Allen Fore, spokesman for Rockies Express, said the project would remain on schedule as the company prepares the details sought by the federal agency.

"They've made it clear they need this information and we're doing everything we can to work as quickly as we can to provide the information they need," he said.

Plans are for the pipeline to stretch from north of Terre Haute in Vermillion County, then south of Indianapolis near Mooresville and Franklin and cross into Ohio near Brookville.

Project opponent Joe Rust, a Greensburg resident and member of Reroute REX, said the lack of information from the company was frustrating.

"I think it reiterates what we have seen from the very beginning, that REX has no regard for property owners and the process," Rust said. "They've only been giving lip service from the very beginning."

Tamara Young-Allen, a spokeswoman for the federal agency, said a project review typically took at least a year to complete and that officials were still accepting public comments on the plans.
