New Albany's director of economic development has found a new job. Paul Wheatley will become the new director of outreach and marketing for One Southern Indiana. Wheatley has served as New Albany's economic development director since January 2005. He has also held positions with Greater Louisville Inc., Jeffersonville and U.S. Rep. Baron Hill of Indiana.

Indianapolis mayor

announces staff changes

Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson has named Justin Ohlemiller as deputy chief of staff and Margie Smith-Simmons as press secretary and assistant communications director. Ohlemiller previously served as press secretary and assistant communications director, while Smith-Simmons previously worked as chief communications & community relations officer for the city's Department of Public Works.

Study says nonprofits

boosted by cooperation

Research by Indiana University Bloomington's School of Public and Environmental Affairs shows cooperation between nonprofit organizations and business is at its strongest in Evansville. The study shows that 45 percent of Evansville nonprofits report that their most important collaboration includes for-profit organizations, compared to just one in five nonprofit organizations elsewhere in the state. A public discussion of the study's results will be held Monday in Evansville.

Elkhart metal shredder

The History Channel's "Modern Marvels" program will feature Sturgis Iron & Metal's Mega Shredder in Elkhart. The program is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. May 23 on ET/PT. The Mega Shredder is the world's largest and strongest metal shredder. It began operations in Elkhart in 2006.

Bike To Work Day

activities today

Today is National Bike to Work Day and communities around the state are participating. In Indianapolis, bicyclists and residents are encouraged to ride through the city and participate in activities on Monument Circle. The city will also celebrate the opening of five Indiana Bikeports.
