Women and diabetes program June 17

"Women and Diabetes" is the topic of a program scheduled for June 17 in the La Porte Hospital Auditorium, lower level, 1007 Lincolnway.

Dr. Julius Ellis, who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Registered nurses Marilyn Emery and Rose Flinchum, diabetes educators, will speak at 7 p.m. A variety of topics, including emotions, menopause, diabetes and pregnancy, hormones, brittle bones and more, will be presented. Life Science Lunch Series scheduled

Barnes & Thornburg LLP's next Life Science Lunch Series seminar is set for 10:30 a.m. locally June 17. A live video feed of the Indianapolis-based presentation will be broadcast at Purdue Technology Center in Crown Point at 10.

Rural business workshop set for June 24

The Starke County Center for Small Business and the Rural Entrepreneur Network will host a workshop, "Start Your Own Business," from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 24 at the Starke County Development Foundation Office, 4 N. Main St.

Content will include the characteristics of successful rural entrepreneurs, self-assessment exercise, available rural businesses, steps in successful revenue and profit planning, supports services for rural startups and steps to get started.
