'A-+ for Energy Program' to honor educators

Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade teachers in Lake and Porter counties may apply for grants and scholarships through BP's 2008 "A+ for Energy" program, which recognizes innovative energy education programs. Winners will be awarded a cash grant of $5,000 or $10,000 of the $250,000 available to implement their classroom programs, receive funds to attend a three-day Energy Educator Training Conference, and be provided with a Science of Energy kit and other classroom materials, valued at $500.

BP sponsors the program that is designed to empower teachers with resources and tools to implement creative projects that excite and educate students about energy and energy conservation.

Applications have been mailed to all eligible schools. Interested teachers can learn more about the program by visiting www.aplusforenergy.org. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online by March 7 with winners notified on May 12.

Nominations sought for safety awards

Nominations are being sought for the 2008 Governor's Workplace Safety Awards, which recognize the most innovative safety and health initiatives among Indiana's workplaces. Awards are offered in four categories: innovations, partnerships, education and outreach, and construction (residential, specialty contractor or general contractor.)

The awards are open to all organizations, regardless of size or number of workers affected. To qualify, a company must be deemed to be free of compliance disputes concerning all applicable local, state and federal statutes and regulations.
