Evansville City Controller Lisa Acobert will be leaving office as of October 1. She says the time is right for her to pursue other professional opportunities. Acobert has been with the administration since Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel took office in 2004. The search for a new city controller will begin soon.

New home dialysis treatment center to open

Clarian Health and IU School of Medicine officials will host a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday for the new Clarian/IU Home Dialysis Center. The facility is the first of its kind in Indianapolis and the largest of its kind in the state that will exclusively offer treatments and training with home hemodialysis technology, compared to the conventional way which usually takes place in clinics or hospitals. The center will house six training rooms, four clinic rooms and two conference centers. The goal is to train 10 patients per month and accommodate more than 700 home patients per year. The center is expected to treat its first patients in September.

Attorney general files lawsuit for unsolicited faxes

Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter has filed a lawsuit against a New Jersey company accused of distributing unsolicited faxes to more than 1,000 Hoosier homes and businesses. The lawsuit seeks up to $1,500 per violation against EZ Precious Metals Group Inc. and another $10,000 for the company's failure to obtain a certificate of authority from Indiana to transact business within the state. Carter says his office has heard complaints from 51 counties, including one person in Pulaski County claiming to receive as many as 200 faxes.

FDA calls for stronger insulin drug labels

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is working with Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY) and Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. to strengthen the warning labeling for the diabetes drug Byetta. The FDA says it has received reports of six cases of pancreatitis in patients taking the drug, with two of them dying. Byetta was discontinued in all six cases.

Games manufacturer ending Indiana production

Escalade Sports is ceasing production in Evansville. The decision will impact 30 workers. Human Resource Director Gary Alan says production will end on September 30 as part of an overall effort to reduce costs.

Delphi job cuts hit Indiana

Delphi Corp. says it is cutting 600 salaried positions company wide from its operations as part of an effort to reduce costs by 25 percent. Spokesman Milton Beach says the company is not sure yet how many of those reductions will take place at Delphi Electronics and Safety in Kokomo. He says the cuts are needed because of continued sluggish vehicle sales, sparked by higher fuel prices, and a shift in consumer vehicle preferences.

GM exec: No "silver bullet" for automaker's future

While General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) has been making headlines for its big push to get electric vehicles in showrooms by 2010, a key executive says the company will be pursuing several different paths as it maps its technology future. During a visit to Indiana last week, GM Powertrain Vice President for Global Manufacturing John Buttermore said there is no "silver bullet" and the company is pursuing a variety of strategies related to future vehicles.
