Merrillville-based White Lodging has hired a new regional vice president. Lisa Peterson will oversee operational and financial performances for hotels in Utah, Arizona and Colorado. She most recently served as regional director of operations for Intercontinental Hotels.
Major trade show returning to central Indiana
The Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association EXPO is returning to Indianapolis in 2011 and 2012. The residential electronic systems trade show left the Circle City in 2005 because it had outgrown the Indiana Convention Center. At the time, the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association says it was the city's third largest convention, resulting in $27.4 million in direct visitor spending. CEDIA EXPO attracts 25,000 attendees and will fill approximately 34,000 hotel rooms in both 2011 and 2012.
Marion moves to free up economic development funding
The city of Marion is moving forward with a plan to spur economic development. The city council has approved resolutions clearing the way for the Marion Redevelopment Commission to take out up to $3.5 million in bond anticipation notes. The funding would be available for up to three years for the commission to purchase land or offer incentives in the hopes of attracting companies to the area. The city's redevelopment commission has to provide the final approval for the plan.
Cummins implements layoff plan at NY operation
The continuing weak economy and pending changes to federal engine emissions standards are prompting Columbus-based Cummins Inc. to implement a layoff plan at its North American heavy duty diesel manufacturing operations in New York state. The company says at least 400 workers will be laid off, but most are expected to be part of a voluntary program, allowing them to keep their health benefits.
Interview process to begin for Orr Fellowship
Some of the state's best and brightest college graduates will be interviewing this week for the Governor Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship. The initiative aims to retain and inspire students by giving them positions with entrepreneurial companies. Forty candidates will be considered for this year's fellowship.
Greene County city to go dark
Linton residents are preparing for a scheduled, city-wide power outage Sunday. Duke Energy Corp. will cut power to the city for maintenance and the replacement of switches. The utility is planning to complete the work from midnight to 8 a.m.
Two central Indiana credit unions agree to merge
Community Choice Federal Credit Union and Clarian Federal Credit Union, both Indianapolis-based, are merging. Community Choice FCU customers will gain an on-site ATM, access to a network of free ATMs and access to Clarian FCU's Web-based home banking and bill payment services. Officials expect the merger to be completed by the end of this year.
Indiana insurer joins Florida-based group
Indiana-based Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance Co. has become an affiliate of Florida-based Main Street America Group. The Indiana Department of Insurance and policyholders of Grain Dealers Mutual have approved the deal. Main Street's board of directors will replace Grain Dealers' board. Financial terms of the transaction have not been made public.
Ivy Tech names vice provost For academic affairs
Ivy Tech Community College has promoted Mary Ostrye to vice provost for academic affairs. She will begin her new role in January and will replace Marnia Kennon, who recently retired after working for the institution for more than two decades. Ostrye most recently served as vice chancellor of Academic Affairs at Ivy Tech's Lafayette campus. She will direct more than 150 academic programs and concentrations at the school's 23 campuses.
