Build Indiana Conference set for May 1

The Northwest Indiana Forum and Northern Indiana Public Service Co. will be major sponsors for the Build Indiana Conference set for May 1 at Avalon Manor Banquet Center, 3550 E. U.S. 30.

The program will include developers, brokers, builders, owners, and economic development professionals for a discussion on development opportunities related to highway, air, rail, port, and lakeshore.

Speakers will include Peter Laman, director of Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor, Henry Lampe, president of Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad, Tim Sanders, executive director of the Regional Development Authority, John Parsons, director of marketing and planning for the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, and Charles Weaver, executive director of Starke County Development Foundation.

NWI World Trade Council meets April 24

The annual membership meeting of the Northwest Indiana World Trade Council will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. April 24 at Avalon Manor Banquet Center, 3550 E. U.S. 30.

The main speaker will be Lee Lane, president and attorney with Hoeppner, Wagner and Evans. The agenda includes a new business focus and mission. Cost is for $16 members and students with reservation and $18 for nonmembers or at door.

Indiana Tech to offer teacher ed programs

Indiana Tech College of Professional Studies has received approval from the Indiana Department of Education for teacher education programs.

The approval allows Indiana Tech, 285 W. 80th Place, to offer degree programs in the licensor areas for early and middle childhood generalist; early adolescence concentration in language, science, social studies, or mathematics; and physical education (K-12) with a coaching certification.

Indiana Tech began developing the teacher education programs for traditional students at the Fort Wayne campus in 2006, and currently has 32 students enrolled as education majors.
