Whole Bakers, a gluten-free specialty company, is partnering with Hammond-based PacMoore to manufacture and deliver baked goods. To ensure that all Whole Bakers products are created in a gluten-free environment, PacMoore is currently building a new gluten-free bakery. Whole Bakers products consist of 13 different cookie flavors and certified organic coffee.

Bloomington publisher fined $50,000

Bloomington-based Author Solutions has been fined $50,000 for having unlicensed copies of Adobe, Microsoft, and Symantec software installed on its computers. As part of the settlement, the self-publishing service for authors agreed to delete all unlicensed copies, acquire any licenses necessary to become compliant and commit to implementing stronger software license management practices.

IU researchers launch social networking for scientists

Indiana University researchers have launched a Web-based solution to the complex problems of scientific collaboration called "Laboratree." The social network will allow scientists to securely manage research papers and data, organize groups and projects, send group messages, author blogs, and customize personal and group profiles all online.

BEDC and IEDC to take business development mission

Members from the Bloomington Economic Development Corp. (BEDC) and the Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC) will be traveling to Chicago this week on a business development mission. The group will visit approximately 20 organizations and host a reception for business leaders interested in Indiana. More than 20 individuals will participate in the mission, including representatives from Hoosier Energy, Duke Energy and economic development organizations throughout Indiana.

Elkhart official calls Monaco decision a "positive sign"

The announcement by Oregon-based Monaco Coach Corp. (NYSE: MNC) that it will maintain production at its joint venture with Navistar Inc. (NYSE:NAV) in Elkhart is being hailed as good news by area officials. Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Public Policy Kyle Hannon says the decision is a good sign for the region's economy and a possible indication to start-up businesses that Elkhart has a strong workforce with the ability to make things people want to buy.

Indiana forestry sales "holding up" in tough market

An expert with the Department of Natural Resources says the state's forestry sales are "holding up well" during this economic time. DNR Director of Communications Phil Bloom says Indiana is producing $17 billion a year from the lumber industry in both public and private forest land. He says Indiana ranks among the top five hardwood producing states in the country and ranks first in several areas including wood office furniture, manufactured homes, cabinets and caskets. Bloom reports the Indiana division of forestry generates about $3 million annually and gives about $300,000 back to local counties where trees are harvested.

Citizens Gas & Coke Utility changing its name

Indianapolis-based Citizens Gas & Coke Utility is changing its name to Citizens Energy Group. The company says the new name and logo reflect recent changes in its strategy including helping customers conserve energy. Citizens Energy Group will continue to operate under the not-for-profit public charitable trust created in 1887 and owned by the City of Indianapolis since 1906. This marks only the third name change in the utility's 121-year history.

Study: Cymbalta Can Relieve Back Pain

Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co (NYSE: LLY) says a new study shows a daily dose of Cymbalta significantly reduces chronic lower back pain. Results were presented today at the annual congress of the European Federation of Neurological Societies in Madrid, Spain. Serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain and spinal cord are believed to both mediate core mood symptoms and help regulate the perception of pain.
