Companies continue to cut jobs

The weak economy is prompting more companies throughout the state to file job reduction notices with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. Kimball Office has announced it is laying office 75 workers from a wood office manufacturing facility in Borden. Household products manufacturer Sleep Innovations Inc. in plans to close in Elkhart. The decision will impact 104 workers.

Indiana company produces Obama cookies

An Indianapolis dessert-maker is preparing for next week's inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama by offering Obama cookies. Pastry Chef Clare Welage says he has reproduced the image of the President-elect on a vanilla cookie. The delicacies are available in a Presidential frame. The Obama inauguration is set for Jan. 20.

Angie's List: Some companies eliminating fuel charges

A recent poll by Indianapolis-based Angie's List shows some service companies that implemented fuel charges last year have eliminated the extra cost. The research shows 15 percent of companies surveyed have removed the charges and another 15 percent have lowered prices. Many businesses increased costs when gasoline was hovering around $4 per gallon. Angie's List also says about half of those who lowered their prices passed along that information to customers.

Purdue to dedicate Indianapolis research park

Purdue Research Park at Ameriplex-Indianapolis will be dedicated January 21. Purdue University President France Cordova and Gov. Mitch Daniels are among those scheduled to attend the event at the tech center, which is located across I-70 from the new Indianapolis International Airport. Purdue officials say the park will have the capacity to house 75 businesses and 1,500 jobs.
