CHICAGO | The Alliance for American Manufacturing is sponsoring a meeting Feb. 20 that will focus on keeping manufacturing industries in the United States.
The meeting, scheduled at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, is the seventh and last in the nationwide effort to "Keep It Made in America." The event will be hosted by John Ratzenberger, formerly of the television show "Cheers" and current host of the Travel Channel's "Made in America" series.
The free program is supported by the United Steelworkers union.
"There is nothing more critical to the future of America than the preservation and expansion of good jobs," said USW International President Leo Gerard. "The key to good jobs is fair trade laws ... If people who attend these events insist candidates tell us what they are going to do about good jobs and fair trade, we can influence their positions and change the direction of our economic future."
If interest is sufficient, USW District 7 may hire buses to transport members, families and friends to a USW program scheduled in conjunction with the meeting. Reservations are required for the event that begins at 5 p.m. with a light dinner at the museum and a tour of its exhibits.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
