The Steak n Shake Company is planning to change its corporate name. A shareholder vote on whether to become Biglari Holdings Inc. is expected at the company's annual meeting in April. The company is also reporting net earnings for the first quarter of fiscal 2010 of $5.5 million, compared to a loss of $3.4 million for the same period a year earlier.

Purdue University has set up a new Web site to highlight the institution's innovation and economic development efforts in the state's 92 counties. The university says the site can be a tool for people who want to strengthen a company, start a new business or take a class.

The organization has selected three finalists out of nearly 200 proposals for its Worldwide Service Project. Kiwanis International will announce what initiative to pursue at its convention in Las Vegas in June.
Microsoft vice president to speak at IU
Microsoft Vice President of External Research Tony Hey will speak Tuesday at Indiana University Innovation Center in Bloomington. He plans to discuss the skills needed for dealing with scientific data. The speech will launch the Indiana University Pervasive Technology Institute's Digital Science Center Seminar Series.
BioStorage unveils first mobile biorepository
Indianapolis-based BioStorage Technologies Inc. is launching its new mobile biorepository called OSIRIS. The company says it is the first to transform a semi-trailer into a fully compliant biorepository for sample transition, relocation and emergency response services. BioStorage Technologies invested $575,000 in the 52-foot, multi-temperature unit.
Indiana company hoping to power Colts to victory
The president of a Bloomington bakery says in a small way his company is "fueling the Colts to the Super Bowl." Greg Berke with Scholar's Inn Bakehouse says his operation shipped 24 pounds of Bakehouse Granola to South Florida today, at the request of the Indianapolis Colts. He says the relationship provides a promotional platform for the business, including some interest from national media outlets leading up to Sunday's game.
New foundation has ambitious plan for 2010
Indianapolis-based Phoenix Wish For Our Heroes says it has granted nearly 20 wishes totaling more than $25,000 since launching in November. The nonprofit organization grants wishes for active military personnel. The foundation says it has an ambitious goal of granting 15 wishes per month this year.
The Mind Trust announces new Application process
Indianapolis-based nonprofit The Mind Trust has a new rolling application process for its Education Entrepreneur Fellowship. The organization says it will award Fellowships throughout the year starting immediately. The Mind Trust says it hopes the new process will attract more entrepreneurs from throughout the world.
Energy Company Joins FutureGen Alliance
One of the nation's largest energy companies is supporting an Illinois clean-coal project that is expected to impact Indiana. Exelon Corp. will become a member of the FutureGen Alliance, which plans to construct a clean coal technology power plant in Mattoon, Illinois. Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has signed an agreement with Illinois calling for carbon-dioxide related projects to be carried out in the Hoosier state.
Old National posts fourth-quarter loss
Evansville-based Old National Bancorp is reporting a fourth quarter net loss of $9.3 million, compared to a profit of $6.6 million for the same period a year earlier. The company attributes the loss to a higher than anticipated provision for loan losses.
Salin Bank appoints community president
Indianapolis-based Salin Bank and Trust Co. has promoted Michelle Cox to community president. She began her career with the company in 1995 as assistant vice president, agricultural loan officer. Cox will now be responsible for Logansport, as well as Carroll and Cass Counties.
Interest remains high at Rose-Hulman
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology says a new record has been set after receiving more than 3,600 applications for its 2010-11 freshman class. The school says applications have increased 20 percent over the past two years. Rose-Hulman is also gaining an international reputation.
