Lakeshore Public Television and Radio will soon establish a national search for a new leader following the resignation of President and CEO Thomas Carroll.

Carroll resigned Wednesday at the request of the stations' board of directors, board chair Bonita Neff said Thursday. Neff said Carroll "felt it was the time" and the separation was amicable.

Neff and board member Cal Bellamy will conduct CEO duties until the search is complete.

The Merrillville-based nonprofit organization, Northwest Indiana Public Broadcasting Inc., operates the Lakeshore television station WYIN-TV 56 and radio station WLPR-FM 89.1.

Carroll, who began working at the Lakeshore in 2002, helped oversee an expansion of local news programming, a rebranding of the television station and the creation of the radio station, according to a news release the organization issued Thursday. Carroll also serves as treasurer of the Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations association.

Neff said she hopes a new leader for the stations could be presented at the organization's next board meeting, but that would depend on how quickly candidates could be fielded and interviewed. The meeting is scheduled at 4 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Merrillville office of law firm Hoeppner Wagner & Evans LLP, 1000 E. 80th Place, South Tower, 6th Floor.

The Lakeshore television station, founded 25 years ago, is a Public Broadcasting Service affiliate and WLPR is a nearly four-year-old National Public Radio member station.
