HAMMOND │ Last year the Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders upset some local tourism officials because they used a beach in Michigan for their swimsuit calendar shoot instead of one on Indiana’s own shoreline.
This year they turned down a request to shoot the new calendar locally as well. However, the Colts franchise will help sponsor the South Shore Air Show at Fair Oaks Farms to the tune of $2,500, which includes appearances by those same cheerleaders and a portable Colts exhibit that will be set up on the Sunday of the air show, which runs July 11 through 13.
The announcement was made Thursday at the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority board meeting by President and Chief Executive Officer Speros Batistatos.
“I’m pleased to report to you the squeaky wheel does get some oil every now and then, and by engaging them and having a nice conversation and just letting them know we’re here has brought benefit to the organization and has helped develop a relationship,” he said.
In other news the board approved a $65,000 contract for the National Softball Association and its fast pitch World Series July 20 through 26. Officials said they believe they’ll get about $55,000 of that money back and have already received a $5,000 grant from Sports Indiana.
“This is a great event and it brings about 10,000 people that week,” Batistatos said.
