PORTAGE | Firefighters from Portage and U.S. Steel battled a small fire in a crane at U.S. Steel's Midwest Plant in Portage Tuesday night.

Firefighters were called to the plant at 8:10 p.m. to assist the U.S. Steel fire crews with the blaze, according to Portage Fire Chief Tom Fieffer. U.S. Steel requested an aerial truck to reach the fire in the crane.

Fieffer said U.S. Steel requested an ambulance, and crews checked out some workers, but none were transported to hospitals.

Courtney Boone, spokeswoman for U.S. Steel, said no injuries were reported and operations were not impacted.

Boone said the fire is under investigation.
