Economic briefing scheduled at PNC

WESTVILLE | A briefing about the local economy is scheduled Oct. 29 at Purdue North Central.

The fall economic briefing will be a combined venture with the chambers of commerce in LaPorte and Michigan City.

Tony Sindone and Derek Bjonback, who teach economics at PNC, will give an overview on what's happening not only with the economy locally but throughout the state and nation.

"And even to some extent in the world," said PNC Chancellor Jim Dworkin.

The annual event in the Library Student Faculty building starts with a breakfast at 7 a.m. with the program beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Cost is $15 for chamber members and $20 for nonmembers. To register, visit or

Dworkin said there will be time for audience members to ask questions of both experts.

Dworkin said unemployment in the region is still high but there are jobs for people with the proper skills.
