GARY | A ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new residential facility associated with Edgewater Systems for Balanced Living is set for 10 a.m. Jan. 21 at the site, 1201 W. 20th Ave.
The event will include a tour of the common grounds.
South Shore Commons is a 60-unit housing complex targeted to serve homeless people who have disabilities, homeless families, those who earn a very low income, families at risk for homelessness and small families with specific needs.
In addition to the residential units, the facility has common spaces that will be used for on-site service programs for residents. Mental health care, service coordination and case management are among the programs.
Edgewater Systems for Balanced Living was formerly known as Gary Community Mental Health Center. It marks its 40-year anniversary this year.
The center offers programming related to addictions for adults and children, including group counseling and day treatment programs. It also manages and provides therapies for residents of several group homes for the seriously mentally ill.
The public is welcome to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony, but they must register in advance by contacting Janelle St. John at firstname.lastname@example.org or (219) 885-4264, ext. 2604.
