Energy career training available for young adults
Training dollars from the U.S. Department of Labor could help young adults get into the energy industry, the Center of Workforce Innovations said in a news release.
The grants are part of the High Growth Job Training Initiative, which according to the Department of Labor targets worker training and career development resources to help people gain skills to build careers in growing industries.
The "Get into Energy" program is expected to help people ages 18 to 26 take advantage of local training in the energy field. Training in Northwest Indiana will focus on plant operations, pipefitting and pipe laying, and line installing and maintenance. Ivy Tech Community College campuses in Gary and Valparaiso will host and lead the training.
Open houses are scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the multipurpose room of Ivy Tech's Gary campus, 1440 E. 35th Ave., and 6 p.m. Oct. 19 inside the auditorium at Ivy Tech's Valparaiso campus, 3100 Ivy Tech Drive.
Representatives from WorkOne, the Northern Indiana Public Service Co. and Ivy Tech will provide information on the Get into Energy program, admission process, financial aid, and potential job opportunities.
