A senior economist from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago will give a talk about the state of the Midwest economy and the manufacturing sector.

The Calumet Area Industrial Commission is hosting the talk by William Strauss, who produces the monthly Fed Midwest Manufacturing Index, which estimates the Midwest's manufacturing output. The event takes place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ridge Country Club at 10522 S. California Avenue in Chicago.

Attendees can listen to Strauss, who has written research papers on topics such as the regional economy, the automotive sector and the trade-weighted dollar. Strauss, who teaches at both DePaul University and the University of Chicago, has presented the U.S. Senate testimony on manufacturing issues.

Lunch will be served at the event, which is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. People can register online at www.calumetareaindustrial.com
