The first group completed a new broker/developer certification program that offers training on how to help 504 loan-eligible businesses get started up.

More than a dozen people just completed the program that is being offered by The Regional Development Co.

Brokers get extensive on-site training and attend presentations that help them get businesses off the ground with 504 loans. The U.S. Small Business Administration-backed financing lets business owners put up only 10 percent of their planned investment upfront, letting them pursue a broader scope for expansion.

Through the program, brokers learn about eligibility, loan amounts and the application process.
