GARY| Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson plans to announce her appointments to the Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority board Friday.
She will name the city of Gary's four appointments to the board at a 12:30 p.m. news conference at the airport.
Legislation passed by the Indiana General Assembly ends the terms of all seven board members on Sept. 1, and allows all new members to be appointed.
Freeman-Wilson gets four appointments. The governor, the Lake County Board of Commissioners and the Porter County Board of Commissioners each get one appointment.
Appointed board members will guide the airport through the remainder of a major expansion project that involves lengthening the runway to allow for flights to the West Coast. Another initiative is underway to bring in private investors.
