The Gary Jet Center was honored Thursday with the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.
The Gary Jet Center is one of 15 employers from across the nation that was recognized for going "above and beyond" to encourage and support their employees who serve in the National Guard or military Reserve. The 15 employers recognized were selected from more than 3,000 nominees nationwide.
The awards program is administered by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency. The honorees were scheduled to meet privately with General Martin E. Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff before the awards dinner. The recognition dinner was attended by government leaders, senior military officials and previous award recipients.
The Gary Jet Center is the fixed base operator at Gary/Chicago International Airport, providing refueling, maintenance and repair services.
