Adolescent asthma seminar at IUN
GARY | Indiana University Northwest’s School of Nursing will host a free seminar especially for children and teens ages 8 to 15 years old.
Eeze the Wheeze Day is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 25, with registration in the nursing lab on the first floor of the Dunes Medical/Professional Building. Participants will learn techniques to better control asthma and create an asthma action plan.

Event will help the disabled
CHICAGO HEIGHTS | Prairie State College is partnering with SouthSTAR Services to host a fun run to benefit children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The “Stroll ‘n' Roll” will include a 5K fun run and walk, plus a 2K stroll and roll, which is well-suited for individuals using walkers or wheelchairs.
The 5K offers runners and walkers a challenging course that winds through the Prairie State campus and a neighboring forest preserve, while the 2K stroll and roll will take place on a paved walking path near the PSC athletic fields.
The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Prairie State College athletic fields by the St. James Wellness Center, near Vollmer Road and Halsted Street.
The afternoon will include vendor tents, clowns, face painting, a DJ and concessions.

USF has admission session
CROWN POINT | The University of St. Francis Crown Point Admission Department will host a question-and-answer session at 5:30 p.m Wednesday for candidates seeking information about the admission process and program requirements.
An admission counselor will explain entry requirements for University of Saint Francis, USF School of Health Sciences, and the Associate of Science — Medical Lab Technician Program.
Candidates for admission may bring high school and college transcripts for a free evaluation.
USF Crown Point is at Franciscan Point, 12800 Mississippi Parkway, Pavilion U. An RSVP is strongly suggested but not required.

Hospital honors top caregivers
HOBART | St. Mary Medical Center has announced recipients of the 2014 Nursing Pillar Awards, recognizing nurses who go above and beyond for their patients in the categories of service, quality, finance, growth and people, as well as a super star for all categories combined.
Schererville resident Michael Gozo won the award for service; Valparaiso resident Deborah Creech won the award for quality; Lake Station resident Kristen Watts won the award for people; Lowell resident Amanda Lewis won the award for growth; Portage resident Scott Baker won the award for finance, and Valparaiso resident Lynelle Sibich won the super star award.
