HOBART | ITR America LLC, a heavy machinery equipment parts distributor, is planning a $6.2 million expansion of its Hobart headquarters, the company announced early Monday.

The expansion is expected to create 20 new jobs by 2014, according to a news release.

The investment will involved the construction of a 100,000 square-foot facility on eight acres of property in the North Wind Crossing Business Park. ITR is also buying new distribution equipment for the facility, which is expected to be operational in 2015.

"For ITR to choose to grow its headquarters in our state over all other options is a testament to the fine workers and compelling business environment Indiana has to offer," said Dan Hasler, secretary of commerce and CEO of the Indiana Economic Development Corp., in a statement.

ITR employs 20 full-time employees in Hobart and 180 others across the county. Hiring for new manufacturing and material-handling employees is expected to begin next year.

"Our decision to expand our new operations in Hobart is due to the proven results we have seen and the great experience and success we have enjoyed in the area," said Brett Clemen, president of ITR, in a statement.

Mayor Brian Snedecor praised the move Monday.

"The city of Hobart is pleased that ITR decided to make this significant investment in their new facility," Sendecor said. "The company had been a tenant in the North Wind Crossing Business Park but will now become a building owner which is evidence of their satisfaction. The additional new jobs will benefit Hobart and the region."

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered ITR up to $125,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company's job creation plans. The tax credits are contingent upon the hiring of Indiana residents for new-job created. The city of Hobart approved additional property tax abatements as well.

ITR was founded in 2006 by parent-company USCO. The company supplies undercarriage, repair parts, ground engaging tools, rubber track and asphalt paver parts to the heavy machinery industry. The company has facilities in Mississippi, Texas, New York, Georgia, California and Nevada.
