Jelly Pancake House expands into Dyer
DYER | Jelly Pancake House is expanding with a new location in Dyer.
Co-owner Steve Vlahos said the target opening date for the new restaurant is Feb. 13.
"The spot became available and we were looking to come out to the Schererville/Dyer area," Vlahos said. The restaurant will be located in a strip mall at 936 U.S. 30.
The hours, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, will be the same as the Merrillville location, 399 E. 81st Ave., as will the menu, which features eggs thatcan be accompanied by steaks or pork chops, large omelettes, freshly squeezed orange juice, crêpes, skillets, French toast, waffles and pancakes.
Homemade soups, burgers, salads, wraps, and varied entrees are among the choices for lunch. The Dyer location has a liquor license and will serve limited drinks including bloody Marys, mimosas and wine during brunch and lunch. Outside seating will be available during warm weather and there is a semi-private area for groups.
Vlahos described business at the Merrillville location as good considering the economy. He hopes continued hard work and providing a good product will result in business growth.
"We are definitely excited about expanding and excited to go to Dyer," Vlahos said. "We are receiving lots of calls and a great response from area residents."
Vlahos and a group of investors used savings and a small business loan to open the Dyer restaurant.
Vlahos said the restaurant's name reflects the homemade jellies served. The flavors, from pina colada and jalapeno pepper to basic strawberry and grape, switch daily. The restaurant recently began selling the jellies in four ounce jars for $2.95, Vlahos said.
Private parties are welcome in the evenings with a special dinner menu and Jelly provides off-site catering with free delivery.
Continuing at the Merrillville location, with every meal purchased Thursday through Sunday, Jelly will provide a meal to a needy region family.
