MERRILLVILLE | Community members had an opportunity to see the inner-workings of Lakeshore Public Media and meet staff members during an open house Wednesday.

James A. Muhammad, president and CEO of Lakeshore Public Media, said the event was a way to bring people “into our house” and become intimately involved in the projects the company is working on.

“We’re opening our doors to let people know we’re here, that we’re a community resource and that there are a lot of opportunities for the community with Lakeshore,” he said. “It’s our way of giving introductions to some and saying thank you others. It’s great for us. It’s just a great opportunity in a relaxed environment for us to engage with the community.”

Muhammad said it was a chance for the viewers and listeners to learn more about programs like the new finance show, "Money $ense and the "Jump in the Lake" segment during Lakeshore’s weekly news program with anchor Kristyn Estes.

“There’s a lot happening here that we’re very excited about,” Muhammad said. “We’re forging new relationships and bonds and hoping to provide greater services to Northwest Indiana.”

Martin Oleksy and Matt Valuckis, hosts of the weekly radio show "The Ad Men" were also on hand to greet guests.

“Events like this allow people to come in and see what it’s all about and talk to some of the hosts of the shows and find out we are local people talking about local issues,” Valuckis said. “For me it’s kind of fun, too, because being on a radio show now they get to see us.”
