GARY | Methodist Hospitals announced Tuesday that President/CEO Ian McFadden will resign, effective Nov. 30.

McFadden served as the system's top executive for five years.

The health care system includes hospital campuses in Gary and Merrillville.

Dr. Michael Davenport, vice president of medical affairs, has assumed the role of interim president and CEO of the hospital system.

"I am very proud of what we have accomplished here at Methodist during the past five years, from undergoing a $73 million turnaround to placing Methodist as one of the top-rated hospitals in Indiana and the Chicagoland area," McFadden said in a statement.

"I feel the time is right for me to move on to pursue an academic career and engage in other hospital operational and strategic consulting and business opportunities which I have been unable to do while I have served in the CEO capacity," he said.

William Braman, chairman of the Methodist Hospitals board of directors, said Davenport is committed to staying on the course McFadden set.

"He is a strong leader and administrator who enjoys excellent relationships across the organization and with key external stakeholders," Braman said. “We are confident in Dr. Davenport and his ability to take the organization into the future."
