MICHIGAN CITY | Midwest Metal Products is expanding operations at the manufacturer's Michigan City facility, the Michigan City Economic Development Corp. announced Wednesday.
The facility, located at 111 Mariner Drive, is undergoing a 27,000-square-foot expansion. The company manufactures rolled angle rings and rolled structural shapes.
Construction is underway and is expected to be complete by fall.
The expansion brings with it 10 new jobs, bringing the workforce at the facility to 37. Hiring for the 10 entry to mid-level jobs will begin late this year.
The Michigan City Council unanimously approved the expansion Tuesday night.
"I am excited about the commitment Midwest Metal Products has shown to Michigan City," said Mayor Ron Meer in a statement issued Wednesday morning. "It is exciting for Michigan City to have the leading manufacturer of rolled angle rings and rolled structural shapes expand its U.S. headquarters here."
Geof Wendt, president of Midwest Metal Products, said the company chose Indiana for its U.S. headquarters because of the company's 30-year history here.
The expansion will allow the company to expand services and product with new machinery, computers and employees.
