Most health care facilities re-open Tuesday

Inclement weather forced the closure of some local doctor's offices, while others opened Tuesday after being closed because of cold and snow.

Franciscan Physician Network offices in Lowell, Demotte and Roselawn were closed Tuesday. Outpatient therapy through the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Franciscan Alliance in Chesterton also was closed Tuesday.

Dyer South Family Health Center opened late at 11 a.m. The Michigan City offices opened at noon, and Franciscan ExpressCare in Michigan City opened at 10 a.m.

Franciscan Medical Specialists offices in Dyer, Hammond, Hobart, La Porte, Merrillville, Michigan City, Munster, Schererville and Valparaiso opened at 10 a.m.

Other Franciscan-affiliated facilities, such as physician offices and fitness centers, opened as usual Tuesday.

All area hospitals remained open during the storm, with some staff spending the night or taking on extra shifts.

All of Community Healthcare System's outpatient facilities were open with regular business hours Tuesday.

Methodist Hospitals resumed normal operations Tuesday. All elective procedures and outpatient services for the day were returned to normal status. That includes elective outpatient services at the system's Northlake and Midlake campuses in Gary and its Southlake campus in Merrillville.

Rehab centers and physician offices of the Methodist Physician Group were open Tuesday.

The MDWise Marketplace 101 event scheduled for Tuesday at Franciscan St. Margaret Health hospital in Hammond was canceled.

The bariatric support group at Midwest Bariatric Institute at Franciscan St. Margaret Health hospital in Dyer was canceled.

The child birth classes at Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Crown Point that were scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday were postponed one week.

The Freedom From Smoking smoking cessation classes that were scheduled to begin Tuesday have been postponed and will start Jan. 14, affecting classes scheduled at Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Michigan City, Franciscan St. Margaret Health hospital in Dyer and Franciscan Medical Specialists in Munster.
