TradeWinds Services will enhance the safety of its consumers, employees and visitors thanks to a $25,000 grant from NIPSCO. The organization will use the grant to purchase and install a security system and do related equipment upgrades throughout its Merrillville headquarters.
The system upgrade will better manage entry and exit to the facility, as well as movement within it, through key-card access, video monitoring, intercoms and zone-based alarm systems.
TradeWinds also expects to see reduced energy use and lower utility bills as entrance and exit doors will be more tightly sealed.
TradeWinds serves people with special needs, and hosts daily children and adult programs. The organization's CEO said the NIPSCO grant would enhance its consumers' safety.
“With several hundred people of all abilities — from babies to retirees — entering and exiting the facility on a daily basis, we want to take every precaution to keep everyone as safe as possible," CEO Jon Gold said.
“We’re proud to help ensure the community served by TradeWinds is safer with this investment," said Rick Calinski, manager of public affairs for NIPSCO. "TradeWinds does so much for northwest Indiana, and we’ve been a proud supporter for decades.”
