PORTAGE │ Cedar Lake Councilmen Robert Carnahan was sitting with the general public, not at the table of Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission members, where as a member he once sat.

But several minutes into the NIRPC full commission meeting on Thursday, Carnahan was placed back at the table, even though his council removed him as an appointee to NIRPC, which is something Carnahan is not happy about.

How did this happen? When NIRPC attorney David Hollenbeck presented the certifications of this year’s new commission members, Carnahan’s replacement, fellow Cedar Lake councilman Randell Niemeyer, who was not at Thursday's meeting, wasn’t listed as one of them.

It turns out notification from the Cedar Lake Council wasn’t sent to NIRPC, therefore, for one more meeting, Carnahan was back at the table.

Even with Carnahan, there was no full quorum at the meeting because too many commission members were absent, so no action took place.

The new members of the NIRPC commission include Eldon Strong, appointed by the Lake County Council; Lori Reno, appointed by the town of New Chicago; Ronald Stallings, appointed by the town of Westville; and Joseph Simonetto, appointed by the town of Munster.
