Merrillville-based NiSource Inc. has hired Joseph Mulpas to lead its corporate financial reporting and accounting functions.

Mulpas will join the company as vice president in its finance department and after a transition period will succeed NiSource Vice President and Controller Jon Veurink as chief accounting officer.

Veurink will take up the post of chief financial officer for NiSource's gas distribution business. He has served as NiSource's chief accounting officer since 2010.

"Joe Mulpas brings exceptional technical accounting knowledge, experience, and proven leadership qualities to this important role on our team," said NiSource Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Stephen Smith.

He also noted the important role Veurink will play in advancing NiSource's gas distribution strategy, highlighting his ability to build successful, high-performing teams.

Mulpas has two decades of experience in all aspects of public and private company accounting. He has worked in finance and accounting roles for Deloitte & Touche, DPL Inc., Maxum Petroleum and, most recently, as assistant controller for First Energy Service Corp. in Ohio.
