Philanthropic donations are expected to grow in the next six months, in what will be a long return to donor levels before 2008-09, said Harry Vande Velde III, president and CEO of Legacy Foundation.

“All reports indicate that we're going to have to continue to work twice as hard to get back to growth numbers,” he said. “It's going to still take us up to two years to return to the levels we had been seeing, just because it takes time for folks to rearrange their internal budget that allows them to have those assets to engage in their philanthropic vision.”

That means making six calls instead of just two or three, presenting the case for the cause and reminding donors of the need to give.

“It's a re-engagement,” he said.

There is a “glaring need” for philanthropic contributions, Vande Velde said.

“Although the economy is rebounding, the need created by '08-'09 is present right now,” he said.
