CROWN POINT | Northwestern Mutual, a 160-year-old financial services company, is having a blood drive Thursday to mark the opening of a new office. 

The financial security planning firm opened the new office at 9801 Connecticut Drive, Ste. 150 in Crown Point.

The Milwaukee-based company has more than $217 billion in assets, $26 billion in revenue and $1.5 trillion of life insurance coverage for its 4.2 million customers.

A ribbon cutting celebration is scheduled for noon Thursday. A blood drive benefiting the American Red Cross will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Northwestern Mutual will also accept donations for the childhood cancer research charity Alex's Lemonade Stand, which it supports as a corporate sponsor.
