GLENWOOD | The original Sanfratello's Pizza in Glenwood closed on Monday after 45 years in business, the owner and founder said Thursday.

Joe Sanfratello said Wednesday he hopes the closure is temporary.

Sanfratello blamed the move on a host of economic issues, including "high taxes, the area is changing, people are moving away, high food costs."

Sanfratello started the pizza restaurant in a small home on Main Street in Glenwood in 1969. Over time, he bought neighboring homes to expand the business from a carry-out only to a dining room, bar and carry-out location at 127 W. Main St.

"We're working on getting re-opened," Sanfratello said. "I'm working with the village."

Sanfratello's Pizza now has restaurants in Highland, Dyer and Tinley Park.

Sanfratello said Wednesday he is going to fight to keep the original location running.

"I'm not giving up yet," he said.
