Ozinga Indiana Ready Mix Concrete in Gary is one of five recipients in Indiana sharing $526,000 in federal grant funding for energy efficiency and conservation projects.
The Community Conservation Challenge grant program seeks community-wide energy efficiency, renewable energy or alternative fuel vehicle retrofit projects. The program requires applicants to provide a community partner and leverage local dollars for the projects.
Ozinga will receive $140,384 to convert six diesel ready-mix trucks to run on compressed natural gas. The company is also partnering with South Shores Clean Cities and the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission to develop a community-wide compressed natural gas forum.
Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman announced the winners Thursday. The CCC grant recipients also included the city of Evansville Department of Sustainability, Hoosier Interfaith Power and Light in Indianapolis, Linton-Stockton School Corp. in Linton and Bestway Express in Vincennes. Projects were chosen from nearly 60 applications statewide to the Indiana Office of Energy Development.
