LANSING | Illinois's top-selling Chevrolet dealer has grown even larger, after expanding into Lansing through an acquisition.
Phillips Chevrolet, of Frankfort, bought Ridgeway Chevrolet, which first opened in Lansing in 1927. The new owner plans to invest more than $3 million in renovations to the dealership, including to the showroom and parking lot, said Kristi DeLaurentiis, director of planning and development for the village of Lansing.
"They identified this location because of its proximity to Chicago and Northwest Indiana," she said.
The 86-year-old Ridgeway Chevrolet occupies a 13-acre site on 17730 S. Torrance Ave. Phillips Chevrolet already has been making improvements to the property, including by sprucing it up with new landscaping, DeLaurentiis said.
"The inventory has quadrupled over the last couple of weeks," she said.
Phillips Chevrolet has been the top-selling Chevy dealer in Illinois for the last seven years, and has been recognized as a General Motors dealer of the year for the last eight years. That award factors in not only sales volume, but also customer satisfaction and community service.
The dealership offers a full range of services, including new and pre-owned vehicle sales, financing, maintenance service, and Chevy parts and accessories.
Mike Maheras, who has more than 20 years of automotive sales experience, is the dealer-operator of the Lansing dealership. He started at Phillips Chevrolet in Frankfort in 1997 and worked his way up to general manager before taking on his new role.
Maheras plans to expand the service and sales lots.
