Physician practice expands with new building

MUNSTER | The Munster-based Medical Specialists health care group is expanding with the construction of a new building at the corner of 45th and Calumet avenues.

"We want to make Calumet and 45th a medical destination," said Dr. Alexander Stemer, Medical Specialists' president and CEO.

A two-story, 36,000-square-foot building is scheduled to open in early 2013, Stemer said. The building will have a musculoskeletal, or bone and joint, focus. It will follow similar designs of other Medical Specialists buildings that provide one-stop services, pairing multiple, related specialties together in one location, Stemer said.

Stemer said the building will be staffed by existing and new physicians, but the decision to build was because the market demanded it. He said an increase in demand and an aging population of providers facilitated the decision.
