A four-wheeled monster is sitting in the parking lot of Thomas Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Highland and will be destroying cars today.

The family-friendly event is courtesy of the Ram truck brand, which brought its award-winning Raminator — the “monster” version of production Ram trucks — to the dealer for fans to see.

Guests also will get a chance to climb aboard and ride in an eight-passenger Raminator truck and meet the Hall Brothers Racing team that drives the beasts.

“It appeals to everyone, especially kids,” said Tim Hall, Hall Brothers Racing president and crew chief. “The team is not only excited about getting these monster trucks on the racetrack, but we love to bring a crowd-pleasing show to local Ram dealerships.”

Hall said he hopes visitors also will check out what the dealership has to offer.

“Hopefully they’ll buy today or next week or even next year because they’re here and hopefully will get a feel for the place,” he said.

The Raminator weighs “a car-crushing” 10,300 pounds with more than 2,000 in horsepower and is 10 feet high.

“We thought it would be a great opportunity to bring some traffic in and have people see what Raminator is all about,” said Greg Rush, Chrysler area manager. “This is the only time it’s going to be up here in Northwest Indiana. These guys travel all over the country with this.”

The Champaign, Ill.-based Hall Brothers race the Raminator about 34 weekends a year.

“When we’re not racing we’re at some kind of function,” Hall said.

The Raminator truck rides will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, with the car crush scheduled for 2.
