MERRILLVILLE | Low-price grocery store Aldi plans to soon reopen its newly remodeled Merrillville location at 10 W. 81st Ave.
Renovations include higher ceilings, more natural lighting and energy-savings refrigeration and light bulbs. Then store was built with recycled and other environmentally friendly materials.
Aldi, which is known for its store brands and quarter-released shopping carts, also is adding more organic produce, USDA Choice beef and all-natural food that is free of artificial colors or flavors.
"We are pleased to showcase the new look of Aldi with this updated store in Merrillville and continue to help customers stretch their dollars," said Mike Jessen, Valparaiso division vice president for Aldi.
Aldi invites the public to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday. People can tour the store, sample store brand products and enter a sweepstakes for gift certificates. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and water will be served at a BBQ event between 12 and 5 p.m.
