PORTAGE | A local development and commercial construction firm has picked up three national awards.

The Ross Group won a Top 10 Builders of the Year Award, a Volume Award for 2013 and an Accumulated Volume Award for sales over the past few years from Mississippi-based Ceco Building Systems.

Ceco, a major supplier of metal industrial buildings, annually recognizes companies for sales and production. The Ross Group, a Portage-based design-build service firm, sold more than $1 million worth of pre-engineered metal buildings to growing manufacturing and distribution companies last year, and did several million dollars of sales over the last few years, president Ross Pangere said.

The Ross Group received the awards over the weekend at Ceco's 2014 National Builder Meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

"It was rewarding and awesome to be recognized in the Top 10 Builders category," Pangere said.

The Ross Group, which does industrial and commercial projects throughout Northwest Indiana and the Chicago area, ranked fifth nationally out of the 600 authorized builders in the country last year.

"I think it's because of the hard work from our employees, great customer service and quality products," Pangere said.

Last year, the company also won a Top 10 Builder of the Year Award for the first time, after finishing 10th nationally.

The Ross Group dates back to 2000, when Ross Co. merged with general contractor Fred C. Rowley & Sons Inc. Major projects include the Peoples Bank headquarters in Munster, Avalon Banquet Center in Hobart, the Dyer Indoor Soccer Arena and the Monosol complex in LaPorte.
