GARY | Describing these trailblazers as among the most innovative “thinkers and doers” in Northwest Indiana, Ivy Tech Community College Northwest and The Society of Innovators announced the 2013-14 Class of Fellows, Chanute Prize recipients and members.

The new class will be inducted at the ninth annual Innovators Induction Ceremony tonight at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond. At the induction ceremony, the region’s Gerald I. Lamkin Fellow for Innovation and Service also will be announced.

“The ninth Innovators Induction Ceremony will induct some of the most innovative ‘thinkers and doers’ across Northwest Indiana.” Chancellor Thomas G. Coley said in a statemetn.

Inductees represent Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, and Starke counties.

Six new fellows include Julie Bombacino, Just Food Blends, Chesterton; Mike Falk, Falk PLI, Portage; Nina Fonstein, ArcelorMittal Global R&D Center, East Chicago; Lisa Hopp, Purdue University Calumet; Don Keller, Tri-State Industries and Tri-State Automation, Hammond; and Stewart G. McMillan, Task Force Tips, Valparaiso. The fellows will also be inducted as members.

There are two co-recipients for the Chanute Prize for Team Innovation. One is the Kemin/Lambert Spearmint Team, North Judson. The other is the Tuskegee Airmen, EAA Young Eagles Program at the Gary/Chicago International Airport.

The following individuals are also being inducted as members into The Society of Innovators: Micky Gallas, Tip Tee Toe Ladies Golf Shoes, Long Beach; Kathleen Kane, SNS, Michigan City Area Schools; Chris Mahlmann, Ideas in Motion Media; Valparaiso; Adela Ortega, Professional Locomotive Services, East Chicago; Michelle Robinson, YOUnique Yoga, Schererville; Mayor Keith Soderquist, Lake Station; Joshua Deboer, Tech Team 911, Dyer; Barbara Eason-Watkins, Superintendent, Michigan City Area Schools; Barb Tracy, Marilyn’s Bakery, Hobart; Bonnie Trout, European Market, Chesterton; and Lana Zimmer, Hoophouse Farming Eduventure, St.  Joseph’s College, Rensselaer.

The following teams are also being inducted into The Society of Innovators: The Homelessness Prevention Internship Team, Gary; Lake County Community Transition Court Team, Crown Point; Beyond the Beach Discovery Trail Team, Indiana Dunes Tourism, Porter; GLC NASA –ARISS Contact Experience Team, Gary Literacy Coalition, Gary; Dunes Creek Daylighting Team, Indiana Dunes State Park; Quality Patient Safety Strategic Initiative Team, Indiana University Health LaPorte Hospital; 2020 Vision: From Diesel to Natural Gas Team, Ozinga Ready Mix Concrete Inc., Gary Division; South Shore Clean Cities, Crown Point; South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail Team, South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority; Nature in My Neighborhood Team, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore; Kemin /Lambert Spearmint Team, Kemin Food Technologies Inc., and Ed Lambert Jr., Lambert Bros.
