South Bend-area home sales post increase
Remax of Indiana is reporting a 6 percent increase in the number of South Bend-area homes sold in April, compared to a year earlier. It attributes the increase in part to the federal homebuyer tax credit. Remax is also reporting a 23 percent jump in the median price of a home in Saint Joseph County.
Teach for America sending more teachers to Indy
The Teach For America organization says 75 of its new teachers will be placed in Indianapolis schools this fall. Officials say that is an increase of more than 60 percent, compared to last year. The teachers are expected to reach nearly 5,000 Indiana students.
State approves Inventrek company for water testing
A company based at Inventrek Technology Park in Kokomo has become the first private lab in Howard County approved to test water quality. The Indiana State Department of Health has certified Criterion Water Labs LLC to help businesses and homeowners test and monitor the quality of water sources in the Kokomo area.
ICVA unveils redesigned website
The Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association (ICVA) is launching a redesigned website, visitindy.com, that includes online booking through travel agency Expedia. The site also features interactive maps, sample itineraries and descriptions of lodging, dining and attractions.
Schneider Corp. opens in Des Moines
Indianapolis-based The Schneider Corp. has opened an office in Des Moines, Iowa. The company provides Geographic Information Systems services to several government agencies in Iowa. The company also says it will hold its annual GIS Conference this August in Ames, Iowa.
Zotec announces new partnership
Indianapolis-based medical billing company Zotec Partners says it has formed a technology alliance with Medical Business Service Inc. of Florida. Zotec says the deal will further its presence in the radiology and pathology markets.
IU announces grants for sustainability research
Four research projects at Indiana University have been awarded Sustainability Research Grants for the upcoming academic year. They include a study of agroforestry in southern Mexico and food waste at IU.
Internet pioneer to address Rose-Hulman grads
An Internet pioneer and a life sciences entrepreneur will be recognized this weekend during Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's commencement. Robert Metcalfe and James Baumgardt will both receive Honorary Doctorate of Engineering degrees Saturday. Metcalfe will also present this year's speech to the college's largest graduating class.
Carmel arts center adds directors, staff
The Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel has appointed three foundation board directors and a production director. Businessmen Stan Hurt, Bob Hicks and Todd Maurer will serve as board members. Former Director of Production for the Sacramento Ballet Kyle Lemoi will become the center's production director June 7.
LaGrange County EDC launches new website
The LaGrange County Economic Development Corp. is unveiling its newly redesigned website, lagrangecountyedc.com. Features include a site selector's presentation and an embedded property search database. The launch coincides with the one year anniversary of the LaGrange County EDC.
