Visitors and natives now have a new tool for finding local craft breweries, courtesy of the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority.

"As more visitors are becoming interested in craft beers and breweries, the South Shore CVA wanted to provide them with a place to easily locate those along the South Shore," said Speros Batistatos, president and CEO of the South Shore CVA, in a statement issued Thursday.

Nine local breweries are showcased on the map on the CVA website. People may plan their own brewery tour by clicking on "View on Map" on the site.

Crown Brewing in Crown Point, Figure 8 Brewing in Valparaiso, Back Road Brewery in LaPorte, Bulldog Brewery in Whiting, Hunter's Brewing in Chesterton, Ironwood Brewing in Valparaiso, Shoreline Brewery in Michigan City and Three Floyds Brewing Co. and Brew Pub Restaurant in Munster are included on the trail.

The CVA said it plans to expand the South Shore Brewery Trail listings as more craft brewers come to the region.

Crown Brewing General Manager Chris Stanek said Northwest Indiana is becoming a brewing hub in part because of nearby training schools and "good brewing water."

He believes the trail will "pull people off the highway" and benefit nearby stores and attractions.
